| Johannes Fritzsch was born in Meissen in 1960. After studying music in Dresden, he was engaged at the opera house in Rostock between 1982 and 1987. Thereafter, he was engaged at the Staatsoper Dresden as Kapellmeister until 1992. During the 1992/93 season, Johannes Fritzsch held the position of 1.Kapellmeister at the Staatsoper Hannover and from 1993 until the end of July 1999, he was the General Music Director and Chief Conductor at the Städtischen Bühnen in Freiburg. In May 1999, Johannes Fritzsch was awarded the prize of the German Musikverlegerverbandes for the 'Best Concert Programming of the 1998/99 Season?. |
| As a guest conductor, Johannes Fritzsch has worked with numerous orchestras, both in Germany and abroad, including the Hamburg and Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestras, Essen Philharmonic Orchestra, Nationaltheater-Orchester Mannheim, Staatskapelle Schwerin, Berlin Symphony Orchester, Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Halle, Staatskapelle Dresden, the Radio Symphony Orchestras in Stockholm, Copenhagen and Oslo, the Malmö Symphony Orchestra, the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Perth, and the Philharmonic Orchestras of Strasbourg, Montpellier and Toulouse. |
| Between 1990 and 1993 he made regular guest appearances at the Royal Opera House in Stockholm. He has also performed, as a guest conductor, at the Cologne Opera House, the Deutsche and Komische Opera Houses in Berlin, the Bastille Opera in Paris and the Australian Opera Sydney, amongst others. |
| In November 1999 Mr Fritzsch conducted a new production of 'Wozzeck' at the Australian Opera in Sydney, a new production of Lohengrin in Parma in February 2000 and in the summer of 2000 a production of Don Giovanni, also in Sydney. |
| Recent and forthcoming engagements include Rigoletto (Melbourne, 2001), Lohengrin, Zauberflöte and Hoffmann (Sydney 2001), Le Nozze di Figaro (Stockholm 2002) Tosca and Carmen (Sydney 2002), Rigoletto and Salome (Sydney 2003), Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Dresden 2003), Don Giovanni (Deutsche Oper Berlin 2001), Fliegende Holländer (Malmö 2002) and Nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni (Stockholm 2002). |
| On the concert platform, Mr Fritzsch conducts concerts with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra in 2002.@ |
