| Pinchas Steinberg made his conducting debut in 1974 with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and has since worked with many major orchestras including NDR Hamburg, Leipzig Gewandhaus and the Berlin, London, Oslo, Israel and Czech Philharmonic Orchestras. Formerly Chief Conductor of the Austrian Radio Symphony Orchestra (1989 - 1996), he is a regular guest at the Berliner and Wiener Festwochen and Salzburg and Bregenz Festivals.\n\nEqually at home in the opera house, he was Permament Guest Conductor of the Vienna Staatsoper from 1988 - 1993. He oppened the 1995/96 season at the Bastille with Nabucco and will return in 1998/99 for Madame Butterfly. Other recent and future operatic appearances include Tancredi at Salzburg Festival, Rienzi at Festival Radio-France, Rigoletto at the Orange Festival, The Makropulos Case at Turin Opera, Götterdämmerung in Barcelona an Samson and Dalila at Hamburg Staatsoper.\n\nHis acclaimed recordings include Wagner's The Flying Dutchman with Austrian Radio Symphony, Massenet's Cherubin with Munich Radio Orchestra (Diapason d'Or, Prix Cecilia, Grand Prix du Disque), Catalnis's La Wally, Bellinis's Beatrice di Tenda and Strauss' Die Schweigsame Frau. |
