| Marco Gandini was born in Vicenza and has started his career as actor and mime in productions by Bussotti, Marini and Cobelli. From 1990 to 1992 he has been stage assistant director at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma for both the winter and the summer season (Terme di Caracalla). |
| He has been associate director and assistant for opera productions by Mauro Bolognini, Filippo Crivelli, Hugo De Ana, Nuria Espert, Lofti Mansouri, Giuliano Montaldo, Pier Luigi Pizzi and Graham Vick; in 1992 he started a cooperation with Franco Zeffirelli with no interruptions since then. |
| In 1997 he signed his debut as director with a new successful production of Gianni Schicchi at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona. |
| His extensive activity brought him to stage in the most important Opera Houses in Italy and others abroad, such as the Teatro Regio di Parma, the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, the Arena di Verona, the Teatro alla Scala, the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, as well as the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, the New National Theatre di Tokyo, the Washington Opera, the Opera Pacific in Los Angeles, the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, the Teatro Liceu in Barcelona. |
| His many productions as stage assistant director include Tosca in Parma, Cremona and Brescia, La Bohème in Rome, Milan, Seville, Frankfurt and Tel Aviv, I pagliacci in Rome, Los Angeles and Washington, Carmen in Verona and at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Benvenuto Cellini in Rome, Turandot in Verona, Genoa, Cagliari, La fille du régiment in Milan and Rome, Macbeth and Un ballo in maschera in Verona, Nabucco in Seville, La traviata in New York |
| In the last seasons Marco Gandini stood out not only as assistant, but also as leading stage director. His new productions include Gianni Schicchi (Teatro Politeama in Palermo, 1998; tour in Japan organised by the Teatro Comunale of Bologna, 1998; Arena di Verona, 2000), La lupa (Teatro Politeama in Palermo, 1998), Amico Fritz (Teatro Bellini in Catania,1998), Don Carlos (Palm Beach Opera, 1999), Domingo Gala (Arena di Verona,1999). Recently he staged Turandot in Rome and at the Teatro Liceu in Barcelona for the opening of the 1999/2000 season and still at the Liceu Lucia di Lammermoor. He then returned to Verona for Il tabarro and to the Teatro alla Scala for La Bohème, and obtained great success staging La gazzetta at the Garsington Opera Festival. At the Teatro Municipale di Piacenza, he has just directed a new successful production of Tancredi. |
| During the next season Marco Gandini will stage Aida al New National Theatre di Tokyo and Gianni Schicchi in Orvieto. He will also return to Garsington for a new production of Il barbiere di Siviglia. |
