| Active in Italy and abroad as a stage director both for opera and playwright, he cooperates since several years with the main Italian and foreign Opera Houses and prose theaters. He also dedicated himself to the preparation of young opera singers, working for three years for the Opera Workshop of Alessandria, which he is one of the founders. As well as opera and drama, he directed also both in pop music, radio and television, being involved with important productions. In the last years he directed new productions in theaters like La Scala ("Excelsior" ballet by Manzotti-Marenco, "Luisa Miller", "La fille du Regiment"), the Piccola Scala ("The beggar's opera" by Britten-Gay), Naples San Carlo Theater ("Excelsior", "La fille du Regiment", "Tosca", "Elisir d'amore"), Genova's Carlo Felice ("L'elisir d'amore", "La reginetta delle rose"), the Rome Opera ("La fille du Regiment", "Excelsior"), Palermo's Teatro Massimo ("La fille du Regiment", "Falstaff", "Ii pipistrello", Krenek's "Johnny spielt auf", Nicolai's "The merry wives of Windsor", Lehar's "The merry widow" and "Eva", Leoncavallo's "Zaza"', Luciano Chailly's "Trittico"), Florence's Comunale and Turin's Regio (both "Excelsior" and "La fille du Regiment"), Verona's Arena ("Excelsior"), Bologna's Comunale ("La fille du Regiment", "Falstaff", "Lucrezia Borgia"), Modena's Comunale ("L'elisir d'amore"), Parma's Regio, Amsterdam's Holland Festival and Bregenz Festival ("Falstaff"), Geneve's Grand Theatre ("La fille du Regiment"), Lucca's Teatro del Giglio ("Cavalleria Rusticana"), the Trieste International Operetta Festival (Stolz' "Spring Parade"). As well as the reprise of Donizetti's "Sancia di Castiglia" for RAI, he took care of staging less performed Donizetti operas, like "I pazzi per progetto", "L'ajo nell'imbarazzo", or Rossini's "L'occasione fa il ladro". In 1993 he was awarded of the Donizetti Award for having directed 19 Donizetti new productions. He will end in 1998 the Mozart-Da Ponte trilogy at the Opera Giocosa in Savona. |
