| Seiffert Peter | tenore |
Following private singing tuition, Peter Seiffert studied at the Robert Schumann Institute of the The Rheinland College of Music in his native city of Düsseldorf. He secured his first engagement at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. A prize at the competition of the German Music Council in Bonn led to international opera and concert guest appearances and television engagements. In 1982 he began an engagement at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin where his success in 1990 as Lohengrin became a landmark for his future career. Since 1983 he has been a reglar guest at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, where he appeared as Narraboth, Lohengrin, Erik, the Emperor (Die Frau ohne Schatten) and was named Kammersänger. Further important roles in his repertoire are Don Ottavio, Tamino (which he also sang in Zurich), Matteo in Arabella (also at the Hamburg and Vienna State Operas and the Liceu in Barcelona), Lenski, Hans in The Bartered Bride, Oberon and Faust. He sang Parsifal for the first time at Covent Garden in 1988. He made his debut in New York in 1993 as Tamino and in San Francisco as Titus. He sang his first Florestan in a concert version in Glyndebourne and then in stagings in Zurich, at the Deutsche Oper and at the State Opera in Berlin. His first Max in Der Freischütz was in Florence before recording the role. Concert appearances led him to the Scala in Milan, to Rome, Prague, London Amsterdam and Berlin as well as to theUSA and Japan. He made his debut as Walther von Stolzing at the Bayreuth Festival in 1996. |
