Austrian baritone Johannes Beck made his first appearance as a soloist at 16 singing Haydn's 'Creation'. Shortly after he started his vocal studies with Wolfgang Gamerith at the 'Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst' in Graz (Austria), where he had his first operatic experience as Papageno in 'The Magic Flute' and Leporello in 'Don Giovanni'.
During his studies he performed in numerous oratorios and worked extensively on his Lied repertoire. He received his Diploma with honours. He continued his studies at Baylor University, Texas (USA) with Joyce Farwell, followed by a year at 'The Juilliard School' in New York City, studying with Cynthia Hoffmann. From there he became a studio member of the Zurich Opera.
He completed his studies at the studio of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Germany, where he sang Malatesta in 'Don Pasquale' and Conte Almaviva in 'The Marriage of Figaro'. During this time he was guesting at 'Kammeroper Wien' (Austria) and made his first CD-recording with E.T.A.Hoffmann's 'Undine' in Bamberg (Germany).
He also had his first UK appearance with Britten's 'War Requiem' in London's Westminster Cathedral and won the Eisteddfod Competition in Llangollen, Wales. 1997 - 2007 he was a member of the State Theater at Gärtnerplatz. Munich, perfoming roles such as Dandini in 'La Cenerentola', Olivier in 'Capriccio' and Marcello in 'La Bohème'.
Untill 2009 he was a member of Opera Cologne. |
