Born in Savona, he began his singing studies with Franca Mattiucci. He is specialising in the study of the buffo repertoire with great performers like Paolo Montarsolo, Leyla Gencer and the fellow-citizen Renata Scotto. He has won the following competitions: Citta' di Tortona and Somis International of Susa in 1991, ASLICO of Milan in 1992, Città di Imperia International and Ismaele Bottolini International of Mantova in 1993. After that, he has won the second prize at the International Verdi Competition in Parma, and the "Le voci 1995" prize, that every year the Verona lyric association offers to a young singer. In 1993 he made his debut as a soloist, and so far has already sung in the theatres of Turin, Parma, Brescia, Bergamo, Como, Cremona, Treviso, Mantova, Modena, Ravenna, Pisa, Savona and Pavia abroad, he has been guest in the Nevers Festival, in Dortmund, London, Edinburgh and Lugano. In those theatres, he has sung all the main roles in operas like "Adriana Lecouvreur", "La Rondine", "Alcassino e Nicoletta", "L'Elisir d'amore"(as Dulcamara), "Gianni Schicchi", "Il Campanello" (as Don Annibale), "Turco in Italia" (as Don Geronio), "I Quattro Rusteghi" (as Simon), "Ii Filosofo di campagna" (as Don Tritemio), "L'Italiana in Algeri" (as Taddeo), "Ii Ballo in maschera", "Ii Matrimonio segreto", "Le Nozze di Figaro"(as Bartolo), "Ii Barbiere di Siviglia", "Cenerentola", "Don Pasquale". Recently, he made his debuts in Genova (as Magnifico in "Cenerentola"), Vienna (Mamma Agata in "Le Convenienze teatrali"), Savona (as Sacrestano in "Tosca" and Bartolo in Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro"), Bilbao (as The Marquis in "Linda di Chamounix", aside Edita Gruberova), Rome (in "Le Nozze di Figaro"). As well as this, he still carries on an intense concert activity. |
