After studying under the guidance of Juan Oncina, Mauro Buffoli made his debut in Osimo in 1987 with Rabarbaro Rabarbaro by Pedini and Gianni Schicchi. |
He started then a brilliant career which brought him to perform in character roles in important theatrical institutions, such as the Teatro Regio di Torino, the Arena di Verona, the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, the Teatro Comunale di Firenze, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, as well as in Salzburg, Lausanne, Lugano, Frankfurt, Warsaw, Moscow, Stuttgart and Amsterdam. |
He had the chance to collaborate with such conductors as Maurizio Arena, Bruno Bartoletti, Angelo Campori, Daniele Gatti, Gian Luigi Gelmetti, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Daniel Oren, Evelino Pidò and Nello Santi. |
He took part in the Rai production of «Nei Luoghi e nelle Ore di Tosca», with Placido Domingo and Ruggero Raimondi. |
In recent seasons, Mauro Buffoli performed in such operas as I puritani at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Madama Butterfly at the Arena Sferisterio in Macerata and in Messina, Don Carlo in Bologna and at the Teatro Regio di Parma, Tannhäuser at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo, L'amico Fritz and Il trovatore at the Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania and L'affare Makropulos at the Teatro di San Carlo di Napoli. 1999/2000 season brought him to the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele di Messina for Mefistofele, to the Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania and Ascoli Piceno to perform the role of Malcolm in Macbeth, and to the Arena di Verona to sing in Orff's Carmina Burana. He subsequently returned to Verona to sing in successful productions of La traviata, La forza del destino, L'amico Fritz and Il trovatore. |
Mauro Buffoli took part in the 2000/1 season opening production of the Teatro alla Scala, Il trovatore, and returned there for the world première of Tat'jana staged by Peter Stein. |
He has recently returned to the Teatro Massimo di Palermo, where he sang as Arminio in I Masnadieri, to the Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania for a successful production of La straniera (Osburgo), and to the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele di Messina to sing in Turandot. Recent engagements also include Don Carlo in Naples, Cyrano at the Opéra de Metz, Alzira at the Teatro Regio di Parma, Madama Butterfly at the Teatro delle Muse di Ancona and Andrea Chénier at the Teatro Regio di Torino. |
Highlights of his future engagements include Andrea Chénier in Venice, Adriana Lecouvreur at the Teatro di San Carlo di Napoli, Assassinio nella Cattedrale at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Aida at the Arena di Verona, and Le nozze di Figaro (Don Curzio) at the Teatro Regio di Torino. |
