Born in Sweden in 1974, studied the violin since the age of four, sang in a famous Swedish Boy's Choir and got solo parts at the Royal Opera in Stockholm as a boy's soprano. He was also a member of the Youth Choir of the Opera.

1993-1994 Gabriel Suovanen studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki in 1995 he took part in a production at the Vadstena Academy of Donizetti's 'Il fortunato inganno'. In spring 1996 he sang Sid in Britten's 'Albert Herring' at the Royal Opera in Copenhagen and during the summer of 1996 he sang Guglielmo in 'Cosi fan tutte' at the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg.

He completed his studies at the Opera School in Stockholm in December 1997.

Gabriel Suovanen received several awards in Sweden and during the 1997-1998 season he was 'Artist in Residence' at the Swedish Radio for concerts, recitals and studio recordings. He also sang the part of Silvio in a production of 'I Pagliacci' at the Royal Oper Stockholm.

Recent engagements include Guglielmo ('Cosi fan tutte') at the National Opera in Helsinki and Valentin ('Faust') in a new production at the Savonlinna Opera Festival. He sang Morales in a production of Carmen at Theatre de la Monnaie in Brussels. He appeared as Marcello in a new production of 'La Bohème' at the Helsinki Opera and he sang the title role in a new opera 'Paavo Nurmi' in Helsinki in the summer of 2000. In 2000 he also returned to Savonlinna as Valentin. In 2001 he sang his first Onegin in Tampere in Finland and took part in a production of 'Billy Budd' at the Liceu in Barcelona.

During this summer Mr. Suovanen has performed at the Drottningholm Court Theatre in Haendel's 'Giulio Cesare'. In October 2001 he sang Schaunard at the Liceu and the next plans include guest-performances with several roles at the Helsinki Opera and at the Oslo opera and he will sing many concerts in Germany, Finland and Sweden.

From the season 2002-2003 Gabriel Suovanen has signed a contract with the Komische Oper in Berlin where he will sing parts such as Don Giovanni, Count in 'Figaro', Papageno, Ned Keene in 'Peter Grimes' etc.

Gabriel Suovanen often appears in concert and Lieder recitals. For example he appeared with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Stockholm, the Helsinki Philharmonic and Radio Orchestras etc.

He was the first prize winner in the Timo Mustakallio Competition in 1998 and in August 1999 he won the 3rd prize in the Mirjam Helin Competition and an extra award for his interpretation. In September 2000 he was the first winner of the new Karita Mattila award.@Several recordings.
