Born in the San Marino Republic, he has started his studies in Bologna with Paride Venturi. He won several competitions such as «Città di Roma 1997», where he debuted the role of Germont in La traviata and the «European Opera for young singers 1998».

He has been invited to sing at the Festival della Valle d'Itria in Martina Franca in Il fortunato inganno by Donizetti (production awarded with Abbiati prize as best stage performance in 1998) and in Ippolito ed Aricia by Traetta. From then on, Luca Grassi has been a regular guest of the Martina Franca Festival, where he performed Rolando (title role) during the 1999/2000 season and, more recently, La reine de Saba by Gounod and Meyerbeer's Les Huguenots.

He subsequently sang the principal role, Dr. Pustrpalk, in Haas?s Sarlatan at the Wexford Festival Opera.

1999/2000 has shown him in La Cenerentola (Dandini) with the As. Li. Co in Milan, La Bohème (Marcello) at the Teatro Sociale di Como and at the Glyndebourne Touring Opera, Stiffelio (Stankar) at the Teatro Municipale di Piacenza, I Pagliacci (Silvio) and Wozzeck (under the baton of Daniele Gatti) at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.

Luca Grassi's 2000/1 season was marked by performances of Stiffelio and Ginevra di Scozia at the Teatro Verdi di Trieste, Madama Butterfly at the Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Simon Boccanegra (Paolo cover) under the baton of Claudio Abbado in Ferrara.

During 2001/2 season he sang as Amonasro in Aida with the Teatro Sociale di Rovigo, in Pisa and in Trento, Le comte Ory (Rimbaud) at the Théâtre de l'Opéra de Metz, as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly at the Scottish Opera in Glasgow, in La Bohème (Marcello) in Modena and in Piacenza, and returned to the Teatro Verdi di Trieste as Sir Riccardo Forth in I Puritani.

More recently, he successfully debuted the role of Don Giovanni at the Opera Giocosa di Savona, and sang as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly at Deutsche Oper in Berlin and at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, and as Marchese de la Force in Les dialogues des Carmélites at the Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania.

His future engagements include La Bohème (Marcello) at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Lakmé (Frederick) at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo and Madama Butterfly at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.
