Marta Marquez was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and studied at the Juilliard School in New York and with Tito Gobbi in Florence. After engagements in Saarbrücken and Kassel she joined the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Duesseldorf-Duisburg in 1984 where she was given the title of 'Kammersängerin' in 1992.@Her repertory includes most of the lyrical Mezzo parts, specializing in Monteverdi, Mozart and Rossini. Her most recent successes were as Penelope in 'Il ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria' (June 2003) and Isabella in 'L'italiana in Algeri'. Other parts include Ottavia(Poppea), Ruggero (Alcina), Tamerlano, Ramiro (La Finta Giardinera),@Cherubino, Dorabella, Idamante, Rosina and Angelina (La Cenerentola). She has appeared as a guest at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, at the Bavarian State Opera and at the Hamburg Opera. In October 2003 she created one of the roles in Mauricio Kagel's 'TheaterKonzert' for the Ruhrtriennale. |
