James Eirian
mezzosoprano

Born in Wales, she studied at the @RCM with Ruth Packer and has appeared with all the major opera companies in the UK, her repertory including Poppea, Dido, Ariodante, Cherubino, Rosina, Polly, Peachum, Dorabella, Siebel, Hänsel, Fyodor, Périchole, Teseo, Sextus, Despina, Zerlina and Meg Page. She has recorded the last five of these roles. She made her Royal Opera debut as Annina (Der Rosenkavalier) in 1987 and returned for Javotte (Manon), Smeton (Anna Bolena), Nancy (Albert Herring), Tisbe (La Cenerentola) and Olga (Eugene Onegin). She has also appeared with many leading opera companies abroad, including Netherlands Opera, Lyons Opera, Paris Opera, San Diego Opera and Houston Grand Opera, and at the Ais-en-Provence Festival. Her plans include Schoolboy/Dresser (Lulu) at the Opéra-Bastille and Vivaldi's 'Rosmira fedele' in Nice.
