Michele Pertusi is an acclaimed artist enjoying a career in the most important theatres throughout the world. He is regularly invited to sing major roles and works such as Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Così fan tutte, Don Giovanni, Rossini's La Cenerentola, Semiramide, Il turco in Italia, L'italiana in Algeri, Le siège de Corinthe, Guillaume Tell, Donizetti's Anna Bolena, Lucrezia Borgia, Lucia di Lammermoor, Verdi's Oberto, conte di San Bonifacio, Attila, I Lombardi alla prima crociata, Rossini's Stabat Mater and Petite Messe solennelle, Mozart's Requiem and Verdi's Messa da Requiem. He has performed regularly under the batons of Daniel Barenboim, Semyon Bychkov, Riccardo Chailly, Myung-Whun Chung, Colin Davis, Daniele Gatti, Vladimir Jurowski, James Levine, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti and Georg Solti.

Recent seasons' highlights of Michele Pertusi include the return to the Macerata Opera Festival for Verdi's Oberto, conte di San Bonifacio, to the Wiener Staatsoper for L'italiana in Algeri and Guillaume Tell (2001), to the Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania to portray Sir Giorgio in I Puritani (2001) and Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor (2002), as well as appearances in Lucia di Lammermoor (1999), Così fan tutte (2001) and Le nozze di Figaro (2002) at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Two important debuts in London have followed: with the London Symphony Orchestra in La damnation de Faust (conducted by Colin Davis) and at the Royal Opera House-Covent Garden in Les contes d'Hoffmann and La Cenerentola (2000). Acclaimed were his last performances of Nina, o sia la pazza per amore at the Ravenna Festival, Le siège de Corinthe (Mahomet II) at the Opéra de Lyon, Così fan tutte and Thais (debut in the role of Athanael) at the Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, and his first appearance on the stage of the Opernhaus in Zurich (L'italiana in Algeri and Carmen) and of the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari as Don Giovanni, a role he has just revisited at the Arena di Verona and at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo. Michele Pertusi gained great approvals with his recent debuts in the title role of Falstaff at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, under the baton of Daniele Gatti (a role that he will re-propose with the London Symphony Orchestra), in Marin Faliero at the Teatro Regio di Parma (where he also sang in Carmen), and in Don Quichotte at the Teatro Regio di Torino.

Forthcoming engagements include Don Giovanni at the Metropolitan Opera and at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, L'italiana in Algeri and Vita at the Teatro alla Scala, Carmen at the Opernhaus in Zurich, Semiramide at the Teatro Regio di Torino and at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Attila, Marin Faliero and Rossini's Stabat Mater at the Teatro La Fenice di Venezia.

In last seasons Michele Pertusi has portrayed the most important rossinian roles at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, where he debuted in Summer 1997 in Graham Vick's new production of Moïse et Pharaon under the baton of Vladimir Jurowski, for which he was awarded the coveted «Rossini d'Oro» prize. Again in Pesaro he has recently sung in Il viaggio a Reims, Petite Messe Solemnelle and Le Siège de Corinthe. Since 1998, he has been also a regular guest of the Teatro alla Scala, where he performed in such operas as Lucrezia Borgia, Le nozze di Figaro (Conte d'Almaviva) and Don Giovanni (Don Giovanni) with Riccardo Muti, Nina, o sia la pazza per amore (Il conte), as well as, more recently, La Sonnambula (Conte Rodolfo) and La Cenerentola (Alidoro).

In the 1998/9 season he performed as Rodolfo in La sonnambula and Raimbaud in Le comte Ory at the Teatro Regio di Torino, Selim in Il turco in Italia at Teatro Regio di Parma, Giorgio in I puritani for his Wiener Staatsoper debut, Mustafà in L'italiana in Algeri again in Vienna and Bilbao, and in the title role of Attila at Teatro Comunale di Bologna and at the Teatro Regio di Parma, where his role debut obtained a great personal success. In 1997/8 season he was heard at the Metropolitan Opera as Alidoro in La Cenerentola conducted by James Levine, at the Teatro Regio di Torino in Le nozze di Figaro, at the Opéra de Montecarlo in Il turco in Italia, at Teatro Regio in Parma in L'italiana in Algeri, at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna in Don Giovanni. He was invited to open the 1995/6 season of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo with La gazza ladra, then he sang the title role of Don Giovanni in Venezia and in I puritani in Turin. Moreover he was in Madrid for Le nozze di Figaro, at the Opéra de Marseille for Così fan tutte and he sang in several cities Roméo et Juliette under the baton of Colin Davis. After a great success at Opéra de Lausanne with the title role of Don Giovanni, he performed several concert performances of this opera with George Solti, with whom he also recorded it for Decca. In previous seasons Michele Pertusi has enjoyed success in Le nozze di Figaro at the Metropolitan Opera, in Il turco in Italia with Riccardo Chailly and in Rossini's Stabat Mater in Paris again with Riccardo Muti, in Semiramide at the Marseille Opera.

Michele Pertusi was born in Parma and studied with Arrigo Pola, Carlo Bergonzi and later with Rodolfo Celletti. In 1995 he was awarded the «Abbiati» International Prize.

Michele Pertusi can be heard on Decca (Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, Stabat Mater, Cantata per Pio IX and La Cenerentola with Riccardo Chailly and Don Giovanni and Così fan tutte with Georg Solti), Sony (Le nozze di Figaro with Zubin Mehta), Ricordi (Semiramide e Maometto II), Erato (Don Giovanni with Daniel Barenboim). The recording of Il turco in Italia conducted by Riccardo Chailly for Decca was recently awarded both the Grammy Award and the Gramophone Award.
