Sang lyric roles at Toronto from 1984, then restudied as a dramatic tenor: Bacchus at Melbourne (1988), Walther at Seattle. European début as Lohengrin at Stockholm, 1989. London, CG, 1990 as Walther; returned 1995 as Peter Grimes. Created McTeague in Bolcom's opera, Chicago 1992. He has a welldisciplined voice and a strong stage presence.
