London SW/ENO 1968-77, and from 1986; WNO from 1978; London, CG, from 1986; Bayreuth 1983 (Brünnhilde, 1989); New York, M, 1992 (Elisabeth, 'Tannhäuser'); also S Francisco, Berlin, Paris, Turin, Zurich, etc. Repertory incl. Donna Anna, Leonore, Violetta, Elisabeth de Valois, Tosca, Elsa, Senta, Brünnhilde (with WNO at London, CG, 1986), Kundry, Marschallin, Dyer's Wife, Chrysothemis, Milada ('Dalibor'). A musical singer whose attractive voice encompasses the lyrical as well as the dramatic, most notably in the role of Isolde (from 1993).
