Mezzo-Soprano Petra Lang was born in Frankfurt, Germany. After graduating as a violinist she studied at he "Akademie für Tonkunst" in Darmstadt and in Mainz. Her voice teacher today is Ingrid Bjoner. Upon attending the Opernstudio of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Petra Lang started her career in Dortmund and Braunschweig where she sang Octavian (Rosenkavalier), Marie (Wozzeck), Fricka (Rheingold and Walküre), Waltraute (Götterdämmerung, Judith (Bluebeard's Castle) and Brangäne (Tristan & Isolde).

In 1997, Petra Lang had a tremendous personal success as Brangäne in New York performing with the Opera Orchestra of New York under the baton of Eve Queler. As Brangäne she later gave her debuts with Armin Jordan in Geneva, Silvio Varviso in Antwerp, Semyon Bychkov in Torino and Dresden, with Bernard Haitink in London, Simon Rattle in Amsterdam and with Myun Whun Chung in Paris.

Highlights of Petra Lang's career so far include Kundry (Parsifal) with Simon Rattle in London and Gerd Albrecht in Tokyo, Cassandra in Berlioz' Les Troyens with Colin Davis in LondonAriadne with Antonio Pappano at the Royal OperaHouse Covent Garden, Sieglinde in Tokyo, Adriano in Wagners Rienzi in Stutgart and Judith in Bartok's Bluebeard's with Wolfgang Sawallisch in Philadelphia and New York, Bernard Haitink in Brussels and London and Ivan Fischer in Modena and Ferrara, Italy.

Petra Lang won two 2002 Grammy Awards for her interpretation of Cassandra as part of London Symphony's live recording of Berlioz' Les Troyens conducted by Sir Colin Davis. The album won the categories Best Classical and Best opera Recording of the Year.@In May of 2002, it also won two of the highly respected BRIT Awards in London making it one of the best selling recordings of the year.@ @Petra Lang already performed with the most prestigious orchestras in Europe and the US such as the Philadelphia, Dallas and Chicago Symphony, the Munich, Berlin, Vienna, London and Israel Philharmonic and Amsterdam's Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Petra Lang's versatile concert repertory includes symphonies and orchestra lieder by Gustav Mahler as well as Richard Wagner's Wesendonck-Lieder.

Petra Lang has worked with such esteemed conductors as Gerd Albrecht, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Chailly, Myung Whun Chung, Colin Davis, Ivan Fischer, Bernard Haitink, Fabio Luisi, Riccardo Muti,m Antonio Pappano, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Simon Rattle, Jeffrey Tate, Christian Thielemann and Franz Welser-Möst.

Kundry with Sir Andrew Davis in Dresden, concert and recording of Mahler's Symphony no. 3 with Riccardo Chailly in Amsterdam, Das Lied von der Erde in Amsterdam and Sevilla, La Damnation de Faust with Colin Davis in London and New York, Brangäne with Christain Thielemann in Vienna and Munic, Ortrud in Lohengrin at the Edinburgh Festival, Cassandra with Edo de Waart in Amsterdam and with Colin Davis in London as well as Kundry with Armin Jordan in Geneva, Sieglinde/Walküre with Jeffrey Tate in Cologne, Milada/Dalibor with Kirill Petrenko at the Vienna Festival 2004.
