The Italian soprano is best remembered in the U.S. for her recording of Alice Ford in 'Falstaff' under Georg Solti (1963) and Leonard Bernstein (1966). She studied at the Scuola della Scala in Milan, where she sang Marina in Wolf-Ferrari's 'I Quattro Rusteghi', a role she repeated at La Scala in 1954. Following appearances in Italy and Germany, she bowed at Glyndebourne in 1958 as Alice Ford. Her American debut came in 1961, as Margherita in 'Mefistofele' at Lyric Opera of Chicago. Though most of her career was spent at the major houses in Italy, she also appeared in Hamburg, Vienna, Paris, Brussels, Lisbon, Buenos Aires and elsewhere.
