Mula Inva
soprano

The soprano Inva Mula was born in Tirana, Albania, and studied singing and piano in her native city.

In September 1987, she won first prize in the Singer of Albania Competition. As a prize winner in the George Enescu Competition in Bucharest in 1988, she found herself launched on an international career, carrying off numerous awards in the various competitions in which she has since taken part, notably the Grand Prix Madama Butterfly in Barcelona in May 1992 and the Concours International de Voix d'Opera Placido Domingo in Paris in May 1993.

After the debuts in Albania, Inva Mula started to perform in the most important concert houses and theatrical institutions in many different countries, including the United States, Italy, France, Japan, Austria, Norway, Spain, South Korea and Turkey. At the Opéra Bastille she sang in the role of Micaela in Carmen and in the title role of 'ostakovic's Lady Macbeth nel distretto di Mzensk; at the Opera Bonn she performed as Lisetta in La rondine and Antonia in Les contes d'Hoffmann; at the Hamburgische Staatsoper in the role of Adina in L'elisir d'amore. Her past performances also include Roméo et Juliette (Juliette; Avignon and Los Angeles), Bizet's Jolie fille de Perth (Compiègne), L'italiana in Algeri (Elvira; Opéra de Marseille), Don Pasquale (Norina; Los Angeles), Carmen (Opéra Comique de Paris, Arena di Verona), Faust (Margherita; St. Gallen), Le nozze di Figaro (Susanna; Los Angeles and Santiago, Chile), La rondine (Washington), Atlantide (Opéra de Marseille) and Les dialogues des Carmélites (Constance; Cagliari). Since her debuts, the extremely flexible vocal artistry and the timbre of her voice gave her the possibility to afford several Verdi roles: Oscar in Un ballo in maschera (Opéra de Montecarlo), Nannetta in Falstaff (Teatro alla Scala and Ravenna Festival with Riccardo Muti, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Opéra de Marseille), Gilda in Rigoletto (Arena di Verona, Teatro Verdi di Trieste, Music Center of Los Angeles, Teatro alla Scala and in Siena with the Fondazione Arturo Toscanini di Parma), and Violetta in La traviata, a role successfully performed in Avignon, Los Angeles, Toulouse and, more recently, at the Arena di Verona, Opéra de Montpellier, Teatro alla Scala, Opéra de Nice, Deutsche Oper in Berlin, in Orange, at New National Theatre in Tokyo and at the Royal Opera House-Covent Garden in London. Recent engagements of Inva Mula also include Lucia di Lammermoor at the Wiener Staatsoper, Les contes d?Hoffmann (Antonia) at Teatro Verdi di Trieste and in Vienna, Carmen at the Opéra de Paris, Manon in Avignon, Rigoletto at La Scala Theatre, and La Bohème at the Opera Pacific in Los Angeles. With this last-mentioned work she has just made her successful Metropolitan Opera debut.

On the concert side, Inva Mula has recently sung music by Florent Schmitt in a recital at the Salle Gaveau de Paris with the Orchestre National de France and works by Mozart and Mahler in a concert with the Orchestre de Bordeaux. She gained great approvals with the interpretation of Mozart's concert arias in Moscow, under the baton of Spivakov, as well as in concert performances in Kiev, Beirut, Avignon, Madrid, Colmar (Mozart's Requiem e Krönungsmesse), in Dresden (Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle) and in Florence (Mozart's Exsultate e Jubilate with the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino).

Forthcoming engagements include La traviata and at the Opéra National de Paris, Carmen at A.B.A.O-O.L.B.E. Theatre in Bilbao, Gianni Schicchi at the Teatro alla Scala, Don Pasquale at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, L'elisir d'amore a the Teatro Regio di Parma, Rigoletto at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.

The voice of the Diva in Luc Besson's The fifth element is provided by Inva Mula, with the London Symphony Orchestra and the conducting of Frederic Chaslin.
