The Finnish soprano performed Tosca in Prague's New German Theater as a guest artist in January 1906. She was only the third performer of this role here since the opening performance in 1904. She began as Gounod's Marguerite at the Paris Opera in 1897, then her career took her to many stages around Europe - for example she was the first Salome at Covent Garden. For two seasons she sang with the Metropolitan Opera (Marguerite, Micaela, Brünhilde in Siegfried, and Eva). Later she sang mainly in Finland. She co-founded the Finnish National Opera in 1911 and later served as its director. She was also active in literature.
