He went to Vienna early in his childhood. He first learned to be a salesman and worked in a book and music business. He first received his training from Frau Weissgerber and later from Elisabeth Rado. While a student, he belonged to the choir of the Vienna Volksoper for a year. In 1962, he debuted there as Ernesto in Don Pasquale. He was active at the Vienna Volksoper until 1972 and he had one of his greatest successes there as Chapelou in Adam's Postillion de Lonjumeau. During this time, he made guest appearances at the Vienna State Opera, and in Munich, Hamburg, Mexico City, and Buenos Aires. He was engaged by the Vienna State Opera in 1973, while continuing his activities at the Volksoper where he was a regular member for more than 15 years starting in 1978 and where he was named an honorary member in 1984. He visited La Scala and the Opera Houses in Brussels, Basel, and Cologne. He participated in the Bregenz Festival in 1972 and 1984. In 1987, he appeared as a guest artist at the City Center Opera as Alfred in Die Fledermaus, a part which he also sang in the 1986-7 season at the Zurich Opera. He was heard at the Vienna Volksoper in 1988 as Wilhelm Meister in Mignon. In 1990, he participated in the first Italian performances of Intermezzo at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna. In the same year he sang Lenski at the Vienna Volksoper. Other parts that he undertook at the Volksoper were Albert Herring, Nemorino in L'Elisir D'amore, Ernesto, Tonio in La Fille de Regiment, Rossillon in Die lustige Witwe and Adam in Zeller's Der Vogelhändler. At the Vienna State Opera, he was heard in roles that included Ferrando in Così fan tutte, Almaviva in Barbiere di Siviglia, Jacquino in Fidelio, Narraboth in Salome, Elemer in Arabella and the Italian Singer in Capriccio. In addition, he had great successes as an operetta tenor (Caramello in Eine Nacht in Venedig, René in Der Graf von Luxemburg , the title part in Der Zarewitsch, Raoul in La Vie Parisienne and Symon in Der Bettelstudent). Recordings: Philips, HMV-Electrola (Fledermaus, Vogelhändler, Dreimäderlhaus by Berté, Idomeneo, Intermezzo, Arabella , Friederike, La Vie Parisienne, HKönigskinder, La Grande Duchesse de Gerolstein, Die beiden Pädagogen, Bastien et Bastienne), DGG (Fidelio), DGG (Lustige Witwe), Myto (Dalibor), Decca (Meistersinger), Denon (Wiener Blut), Ex Libris (Romeo und Julia by Sutermeister). Just before his official debut, he sang the small part of Ruiz in Verdi's Il Trovatore on the MMS label.
